guess what i did.......?!??

i think i have been officially initiated into korean culture...even though i'm still learning the language. yes, that's a porcelain hole in the floor and yes, i peed in one for the first time.

it was difficult.

joe and i took a trip last week to go pick up our car (yay!) and we had to take a train to get there. (also my first train ride - it was a big day for me.) here's how things went down:

in the first train station bathroom i went in, there were normal toilets and also these beauties, so of course i picked a normal one, but there wasn't any toilet paper to be found! like, not that the rolls in the stalls were empty, but there weren't any rolls in the stalls. period. after much freaking out and searching, i finally saw two rolls hanging on the wall by the sinks. this just baffles me. what if you think you only need a little, but then you realize you need a lot??!? thankfully, that did not happen to me. i was fine. you can stop worrying. though joe was looking at me crazy when i came out of the ladies room. "everything okay?? i was getting worried..." of course i had to explain.

so i had at least had a glimpse of korea's alternative means of release when i entered the next bathroom and found they were the only ones installed. so, being the brave girl that i am becoming...i came, i saw, i conquered. =)

oh, and check out the way they provide soap!

another thing i saw was a little girl being given corn-on-the-cob as a snack on the metro.

many other sights and adventures filled our day, but those were the most noteworthy. =)

reunited and it feels so good!!!!!

here's the video my sweetheart took when he came to pick me up at the airport!

(it's not too long, but some of it is a little tipsy, so sorry to those of you with weak stomachs.)

hooray for being on the same continent again!!! =)

looking back while moving forward

before i begin posts about south korea and all joe and i are experiencing here, i'd like to take a quick minute to give thanks for all the mini trips i was able to take during the last 4 months. joe graciously agreed (suggested, actually!) for me to quit working after the summer and take some time to just go "be" with those i love before we ran away together. =)

my heartfelt thanks goes out to my sweet husband for supporting my need to visit, while suffering through months of being "wifeless". i know it was not easy nor ideal for you to have to come home to an empty house every night while i was away, honey, and i want you to know how much i appreciate you. you continue to amaze me with your love. i am the luckiest girl in the world!!

i'd also like to thank everyone who lovingly welcomed me into your homes and your lives. though the time i had to spend with each of you seemed too short, i hold our memories dear to my heart and am so thankful to have been able to make them! i was so touched by all of the little ways you showed you were glad i was visiting - toiletries just for me, chocolates and pictures on my pillow, delicious homemade meals, drinks and desserts - i appreciated everything immensely.

thank you! =)
